How are children tested for COVID-19 at KIDS Urgent Care in Wheaton?
We offer COVID-19 tests for kids including babies, teenagers, and young adults to age 21. Test types include nasal, throat or antibody blood tests. You and our pediatrician can choose the testing method best suited for your child.
How do I schedule a COVID-19 test for my child?
For the quickest scheduling, COVID-19 tests for kids may be booked on line with our easy appointment link (right) or you may call our clinic. Please complete the patient registration process before entering the facility. Upon arrival, call us from your car and we will take you directly to a clean, private exam room.
When will my child's COVID test results be available?
All swab cultures are sent to a state-designated lab for diagnosis.
Results are returned in about 1 - 3 days. We will call parents with lab results, but you may also check for results via your KIDS Urgent Care Patient Portal. (Set up during your registration.)
How can I prepare my child for the COVID-19 Test?
We encourage you to watch this video with your child before coming for your child's COVID-19 test. It is a child-oriented explanation of what to expect at the appointment and will help them feel more comfortable.
How is KIDS Urgent Care protecting patients during the pandemic?
In order to protect our patients and staff, we have instituted a mobile waiting room. Patients should call from their cars upon arrival and will be taken directly into an exam room upon entry. We have implemented enhanced cleaning and disinfecting routines before and after each patient visit. All of our pediatric staff wear fresh face coverings, gloves and PPE covering for each patient. Our staff adheres to strict Illinois Department of Public Health and CDC guidelines for COVID-19 testing, cleanliness and safety.
Telemedicine Assessments for Potential COVID-19 Patients*
Our pediatricians can assess your child from the comfort of your own home. They can help determine if your son or daughter should be tested for COVID-19 before you come to the clinic. Video visits are easy to set up and can be scheduled through the link on our home page. If necessary, same-day COVID-19 testing will be set up. KIDS Urgent Care is using Illinois Department of Public Health and CDC guidelines as to who should be tested.
*If your child is experiencing severe respiratory symptoms or shortness of breath, please proceed to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
Our board-certified pediatric doctors and nurses will perform the coronavirus test for your child. It is essential that proper mucus collection is taken to provide the most accurate test result.
